Open day 2nd February 2010

The Central Laboratory of General Ecology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and the Project WETLANET organised Open Doors Day on 2nd February - the International Day of Wetlands.

Guests of the event were the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Dr Boyko Borisov, the Minister of Education, Youth and Science Dr Sergey Ignatov, the Vice Minister of the Environment and Waters Ms Ivelina Vasileva and the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Professor Nikola Sabotinov.

The aim of the event was to promote the infrastructure activities of the WETLANET Project. The Open Doors Day targeted  both scientific and broader non-scientific community. In the morning, the Prime Minister and the official guests participated in the opening ceremony for the new laboratory unit for studying wetlands in our headquarters in Sofia. The current achievements of the WETLANET were presented by the coordinator of the project Professor Boyko Georgiev. The new GC/MS spectrometry laboratory, chemical and ICP laboratory as well as the laboratories of environmental microbiology and molecular ecology were presented. In the afternoon, the programme continued with visits of colleagues from relevant institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, universities, members of the NGO's, representatives of the regional structures of the Ministry of Environment and Waters, students, etc.
