Workshop "Benthos ecosystem monitoring in the marine coastal zone"
WETLANET Workshop "Benthos ecosystem monitoring in the marine coastal zone" will be held from 4th to 7th September 2011 at the Laboratory of Marine Ecology of the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research, BAS (IBER-BAS), Sozopol
Objectives
The workshop aims to facilitate exchange of knowledge and experience in studying benthic marine coastal ecosystems and the role of their monitoring in solving the problems of management, recovery and conservation of the coastal zone.
Workshop topics
- Methods for coastal ecosystems status determination using monitoring of the benthic habitats: application of the Water Framework Directive (WFD)
- Development of eutrophication processes in the coastal zone of the Black Sea
- Eutrophication and structure/function of macroalgae/seagrasses communities
- Global and local factors determining the ecosystem status in the coastal zone.
- The community of brown, green and red macroalgae and the ecological status of the coastal zone.
- The seagrass meadows dominated by Zostera sp. and the state of habitat 1110.
- Zostera sp. seagrass meadows and biogeochemistry of sediments.
- Zoobenthos monitoring in the coastal zone
- Main physico-chemical parameters characterizing the coastal zone of the Western Black Sea in the case of the area South of Burgas Bay.
- Offshore windfarms / NATURA 2000
- Mapping of benthic habitats.
- GIS applications in the monitoring and mapping of benthic communities
- Mathematical and statistical processing of the monitoring data
